This guide is designed to help you configure SecureCRT©. An SSH client developed by VanDyke Technologies (http://www.vandyke.com/)

SSH stands for Secure SHell. This is a command line interface identical to telnet. The only difference is that everything done through SSH is encrypted, so if anyone tries to snoop in during your session, they can't read what passwords or commands are being typed.

This guide assumes that you:
  1. Have either purchased or downloaded a 30 days trial version of SecureCRT©
  2. Have successfully installed the program on your PC.
  3. Have ability to connect to the Internet.
  4. If behind a firewall or proxy server, then have adjusted your firewall/proxy server's setting to allow SecureCRT© to communicate over the internet.
  5. Have purchased an account with 100 Megs Web Hosting and have received your login information.
Let's begin...
Start SecureCRT© by either double clicking on its icon on your Desktop or by going to
Start > Programs > SecureCRT version number > SecureCRT version number
where version number is the version number of SecureCRT you have installed. Latest version number is 3.4.

Once ScureCRT© is running, you should be at the following screen. If you get Quick Connect box, just click on Cancel button.

Click on the Connect button, which is the first button on the toolbar. or go to File > Connect. Alternatively, you can press Alt + C together. Performing any of these actions will bring up the following Connect box.

Click on the New Session icon in the Connect box, which is the third icon in the toolbar. You will get to the following Session Options - New dialog box.


In the Name box, type in any name you would like to give this session. For this tutorial we are using Nasir's Account.


In the Hostname box, type your server address. Since we will be connecting to 100megs8, the hostname in our case will be 100megs8.com. If you have your own domain, then the hostname will be yourdomain.com.

In the Username box, type your username you chose when you placed an order with 10megs or one that was provided by 100megs otherwise. For the purposes of this guide, the username is nasir, your's will of course be different.

After entering Session Name, Hostname, Username press OK button. This will bring you back to the Connect box. You will see the name of the session you just created under Sessions.

Make sure you are connected to the Internet. Then either double click on the session name OR click on the session name once and then click Connect button.

Since you are connecting to the 100megs8.com server for the first time, you will receive a message about the host key. That just means that SecureCRT© is connecting to this server for the first time and it has no records of the encryption key of this server. All you need to do is to click Accept & Save. If you do not click on Accept & Save, you will receive the same message next time you try to connect to this server.


Next you will be prompted to enter your password. This is the password that either you chose when placing the order OR was issued to you by 100megs. Also check the Remember my password box, if you do not want to type the password every time you connect to this server. After you have typed in your password, click OK to resume the connection process.

SecureCRT© will now connect to the server. It might take a few seconds for the connection to be accepted by the server depending upon the current server load and your connection speed.

If the connection to the server is successful, you will see the following screen. This means the server is ready to accept your commands. If the connection is not successful, you will be informed about it by SecureCRT© using an appropriate error message.
